Why A Rainbow?

For Pride Month I’m sharing some poetry reflecting on the symbolism behind the rainbow flag β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ

Why a rainbow?
What makes it ours?
What do the colours represent?
But the flag is an imperfect model

A rainbow is not discrete
Not 6 distinct colours
But an infinite spectrum
Stretching from one edge to the other

Within that there is endless room
Space for each of us to find our place
Labels and boundaries are arbitrary
As one colour blend into the next

And what we see is only the start
Stretching beyond the visible
Incomprehensible to untrained eyes
The rainbow contains so much more

Not 6 colours
But infinite shades
Both visible and invisible
And perhaps a space home for all

I write about whatever captures my attention, focussing on my personal experiences. I'm mostly interested in gender, sexuality, and mental health. My experiences are shaped by being pansexual, polyamorous, non-binary, depressed, an intersectional feminist, and active in the BDSM community.
